The Social Media Party

Welcome to the social media party. In a world where we are constantly interconnect it is key to leverage Social Media to your advantage. A great social media campaign can greatly help your company control the public opinion. The world of social median is like a party, there’s lots of people there, there’s a lot of companies there. Much like a party there are people there of all sorts, people who don’t really fit to people who are the star of the party and everything in between. Today I am going to outline the 5 major players at the social media party and how they handle themselves.

The weird silent guy – No Content

                You know that guy at the party that doesn’t want to be there? Got dragged there by his friends and just stands by the wall not talking. That’s the companies that have a social media campaign because they were told they have to. The page with next to no content. If you aren’t going to do anything with social media than DON’T DO IT. If someone searches for your company and find nothing, they will probably think you’re outdated and need to increase you presence. That’s not good, but what is worse is when you search for a company and find a god awful presence. I’d rather see nothing and think they need to update themselves than find a page that shows the company as lazy and representing themselves in a lazy way. If you don’t want to be at the party don’t come!

The ‘I’ll tell you all my stories guy’ – Lots of hustle, awful content

                That douche at the party that is only there to tell you about themselves. Trust me, they’re sweet at beer pong and get all the ladies. If you didn’t know that don’t worry they’ll tell you. These are the companies that use social media to tell consumers all the great things they do all the time. They don’t care at all what the consumer want to be engaged with they only care about telling you about themselves. No one likes these guys, they’re over baring and you can tell from the get go that don’t give two shits about you.

The occasional one liner – Great content, zero hustle

                These guys are great. They’re the ones everyone likes and keeps to themselves for the most part, but occasionally drop a great one liner that everyone laughs at. These are the companies that aren’t very active but when they do post content it’s great. These companies are just missing the hustle required to be great. They have the content but just need to talk more and they’ll really benefit from their social media campaign.

The Crazy – Not overly sure to be honest

That guy at the party who no one invited and no one really admits to knowing and he steals your liquor. He spends most of the night talking to the cat about astrophysics and has a tin foil hat. These are the companies that has absolutely no idea what they are doing and are just out right confusing to try and follow. Take the companies that sell say waffles and they post pictures of dolphins and hardcore rap music on their social media. They hopped on #Kony2012 and each of their posts go to facebook, twitter, Instagram, tumblr, reddit, that blog the VPs nephew runs, and in the weekly company newsletter. These people are bat shit crazy and we aren’t overly sure what they are trying to get at.

The best guy – Has the content and the hustle

This guy is great. All the guys want to be him, all the girls (and some of the guys) want to be with him. Everyone looks forward to what they have to say. This guy is admired but still makes people feel like he truly cares about them. These are the companies who get it just right. They have great content and they know how to get it out to consumers. These are the companies that take social media and dramatically benefit from it.

I think I made it pretty clear which person at the party you want to be, the guy that has great content and can hustle their content out to consumers.
